DAVIDSON, N.C. — Summit Farms moves into the public hearing phase Tuesday, queuing the mixed-use development up for a possible vote by the Davidson Board of Commissioners in August.
That 58-acre project looks to combine a working farm, commercial space and low-density housing in Davidson. 19300 Shearer Road Realty — an entity affiliated with Summit Farms — has assembled five adjacent parcels at East Rocky River and Shearer roads for roughly $4.1 million.
Developers launched informal discussions for the project in November 2021. Work continued behind the scenes in 2022. A master-plan application was submitted in February, with the project gaining momentum over the past few months.
Tuesday’s meeting sets things up for a possible vote by the commissioners at their Aug. 22 meeting.
The push for Summit Farms started when Brian Helfrich — also CEO of Summit Coffee — was looking for headquarters space for the brand in Davidson. He found a parcel, and an opportunity surfaced to purchase surrounding lots and create a village around an existing organic farm. A total of 16.73 acres would be dedicated to agricultural and open pasture areas.
