Chris Cuomo is best known for being the former host of Cuomo Prime Time, a weeknight news analysis show that aired on CNN until its cancellation in December 2021. Cuomo is the brother of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and son of the late New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Chris was fired by CNN on December 5, 2021, in the wake of allegations that he used his position and resources at CNN to investigate women who had accused his brother of sexual harassment. At the time of his firing, Cuomo Prime Time was the highest rated show on CNN, though it not nearly the highest rated prime time cable news show. He has since joined Nexstar Media Group to host Cuomo for NewsNation.

Early Life

Christopher Charles Cuomo was born in the New York City borough of Queens, New York on August 9, 1970. His father was the late Mario Cuomo, the former Governor of New York, and Matilda Raffa Cuomo. Mario Cuomo's parents, Andrea and Immacolata Cuomo, both emigrated to the United States from Italy: Andrea in 1926 and Immacolata in 1927. His brother Andrew is the current Governor of New York. His sister Maria Cuomo Cole is a  producer of films with social impact at Cuomo Cole Productions and is married to fashion designer Kenneth Cole. His other sister Margaret is a doctor. The Cuomos are of Italian descent. Chris's paternal grandparents were from Southern Italy and his maternal grandparents were from Sicily. Chris attended the private prep school The Albany Academy in Albany, New York. He got his Bachelor's degree from Yale University and his J.D. from Fordham University. He has been a licensed attorney since 1995.

Career

Cuomo's early career as a journalist included appearances on CNBC, CNN, and MSNBC. He was a correspondent for Fox Files on Fox News where he covered controversial social issues. Cuomo also worked as a political policy analyst for Fox News. He did a year-long assignment covering the heroin addiction affecting suburban families for ABC's 20/20. Cuomo was the chief law and justice correspondent for ABC News. He covered the earthquake in Haiti, bullying, and homeless teens. He's also effected change in a number of industries after reporting on them, including his undercover look at for-profit school recruiters. Additionally, Cuomo's tip from a BMW owner led to the recall of more than 150,000 cars.

From September 2006 to December 2009, he was Good Morning America's news anchor. In this role, he was the primary reporter for breaking news stories around the world. He covered the war on terrorism by being embedded on several occasions in Pakistan, Iraq, and Afghanistan. During one of these assignments, his convoy was hit by an IED. Back in the U.S., Cuomo covered the shootings at Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, and the Amish School in Pennsylvania. He also covered the Sago Mine collapse, the Minneapolis bridge collapse in 2007, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
